February Favorites - Bon Appetit, Makeup, and Gaming Apps

February Favorites - Bon Appetit, Makeup, and Gaming Apps

February was a weird one. Maybe because Mercury was (and still is) Retrograde. My energy levels were a bit low and I felt blah for a majority of the month. It could also but be my SAD rearing it’s head for one final gasp before Spring. Either way, all I wanted to do in February was camp out in my house and relax. And that’s what I did for the most part. What came with that was discovering new YouTube Channels to watch and becoming obsessed with a gaming app. As you do when you’re hibernating.

WeCrashed

I mentioned this podcast in my “Podcasts I’m Currently Loving" post. Of all of the podcasts mentioned this was the one I looked forward to listening to the most. If you’ve been reading TMW for awhile you will know that I have a love for stories about scammers and businesses that go bust due to shady goings-on. And this story is a bit of both. It covers the rise and fall of We Work and it’s founder, Adam Neumann. And it’s QUITE the story. I like to think of it as the Theranos/Elizabeth Holmes tale of 2019.

Bon Appetit YouTube Channel

I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole recently. I subscribe to a bunch of different YT channels and on that particular day there was nothing left to watch and I was bored. Could I have done something productive? Sure. But that’s not the point people. The point is that boredom led me to discover the Bon Appetit YouTube Channel. A channel of wonder. My favorite series on the channels is the “Gourmet Makes…” series, where Pastry Chef, Claire Saffitz attempts to make gourmet versions of things like Twinkies, Kit Kats and Starbursts. And it is wonderfully funny. Claire’s exasperation at her tasks makes it all the more entertaining and dare I say relatable. We have all been Claire in some capacity at our jobs. The other series worth watching is the “Reverse Engineering” series with Chris Morocco. Where poor Chris is made to reverse engineer famous chef’s dishes - without having ever seen them. He is only allowed to touch and taste them. It is again wondrously entertaining and funny and Chris’ DGAF attitude is sublime.

Seeker’s Notes

I LOVE Hidden Objects games. I still play June’s Journey on my iPad and I recently discovered, Seeker’s Notes. And I’m obsessed. I don’t know what it is about this game. It has an intricate story (too intricate in my opinion) which you can easily follow or ignore. I do a bit of both. It also has great challenges and amazing graphics. It never feels boring.

MAC Star-Dipped Face Palette in Medium Deep

In February, I started my first monthly makeup “box”. I have seen/heard of others doing it. What you do is you add products to a box, drawer or whatever and those are the main products you use and rotate through for that month. I feel like doing this along with my project pan would allow me to use a lot of the products that don’t get as much love in my collection. I added a few MAC products, one of them being the Star-dipped face palette in Medium Deep from the 2019 Holiday collection. I wanted this palette so badly when it came out and then never actually used it. Which is a shame because I have been using it literally everyday and loving it. I use mostly the bronzer shade, Delfic, and the Extra Dimension Shimmering blush in Cloudy Copper. One of my favorite things to do is to layer Cloudy Copper over a matte blush (current fave combo is layering it over the CoverFX Monochromatic Blush Duo in Soft Peach). I have never been a huge MAC person but I have been reaching a lot for the MAC products I own over the last month and really enjoying them.

Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation

I recently did a HUGE declutter of my foundation collection. I wound up tossing about 80% of the items. I’d had a lot of them for a long time and decided to just start fresh. This one of the foundations that made the cut to stay. I added this foundation to my monthly makeup box and have been wearing it pretty much everyday. I forgot how much I love this foundation. Of the foundations that I still own this is one of the best performing ones for my skin. It lasts all day, doesn’t breakdown and has a lovely soft matte finish. If you have oily skin, I HIGHLY recommend this foundation.

As you can see there isn’t a ton on the favorites list for February. But even though the list is small they are all things that have truly brought me pleasure and enjoyment this month. And I re-discovered an old fave which is always nice!
