June 2020 Favorites - The Great, Pat McGrath, Skincare and Birthday Presents

June 2020 Favorites - The Great, Pat McGrath, Skincare and Birthday Presents

June was quite an eventful month for me. I hit a milestone birthday (the big 4-0). But it was also a fairly chill month since I am still effectively in lockdown. Restaurants in my city officially reopened in June but I personally do not feel comfortable going out unless it’s necessary. But - I still managed to have a decent list of favorites.

The Great - Hulu

I actually watched this show in May, but I didn’t have much of a list of favorites to warrant a full post and so I decided to add it to June’s. I watched a six-part documentary on Catherine the Great and the Russian Czars in the beginning of the year and so I am well-versed on her rule and how she came to power. The Great is a VERY dramatized version of her rise to power. And it’s hilarious, fun and incredibly entertaining. If you are a history buff like me you will need to overlook the changes made for story. I was able to overlook them because of the smart storytelling employed. Nicholas Hoult is fantastic. You loathe him and laugh at him all at the same time. Elle Fanning is a revelation in the role of Catherine. I read today that the show has been renewed for a second season and I am so excited to see what they do going forward.

Jordan Samuel Hydrate Facial Serum

I had been using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid +B5 serum for nearly two years and I decided to branch out and try something new. I’d heard amazing things about Jordan Samuel’s skincare line from Caroline Hirons and others and wanted to try it out. I’ve been using it for nearly a month now and I love it. It’s thinner than the TO serum but not watery and doesn’t have the stickiness that I know some people dislike about the TO serum. It layers really nicely under other skincare as well.

Katie Kime Marfa Pajama Set

I received these as a birthday gift, but I picked them out myself. I have really been loving well made cotton pajamas. Katie Kime ‘s site features some fantastic pajama short and full length sets that I’d been eyeing since lockdown began in March. They are expensive and I couldn’t bring myself to spend the money on them. And so when I was asked what I wanted by a family member, I told them that I wanted this set. It’s a classic cotton pajama set with a fun toile-like western print. There is something so luxurious about a good pair of pajamas. I’m not into satin pajamas, I love a nice crisp cotton pajama set.

Skincare by Caroline Hirons

I am a huge Caroline Hirons fan. She is a trained esthetician and industry expert who has worked with many skincare brands. She has a popular blog and YouTube channel and is considered the Queen of Skincare. In June, she released SkinCare, her first book about all things skincare. This could be a very dry, boring read except for the fact that it was written by Caroline Hirons. If you follow Caroline on social media, then you know what an absolute hoot she is. She is blunt and no nonsense which I appreciate, but she has a wonderful sense of humor about everything. And that shows through in the book. It’s like having Caroline talking directly to you in her very blunt and British way. And I love it. And on top of that there is a wealth of info about skin care ranging from cleansing to acids to SPF.

Zeelool Albert Glasses

I was well overdue for new glasses and had been eyeing these for nearly a year. I buy my eyeglasses online as it not only is more affordable but there are more options for styles. These glasses are not for the wallflower. They are statement glasses. I wore them in a few Zoom meetings and got tons of compliments on them.

Pat McGrath Mothership Divine Rose II

This was my birthday gift to myself. I was blessed enough to have gotten the limited edition rose gold packaging. I’ve used the palette a handful of times now and it is stunning. I call it the more colorful glamorous sister to Divine Rose I.

June went by in a flash like it always seems to. I can’t believe that we are already in July and the 4th of July holiday is tomorrow. We are officially halfway through 2020. Which is insane.
